How to Prepare Your Quilt for Longarm Quilting
Proper preparation helps ensure the best quilting results and allows us to load your quilt smoothly and efficiently. Please review the following guidelines before submitting your quilt.
Quilt Top Preparation
Ensure your quilt top is pressed and squared.
Press seams flat and remove wrinkles before submitting your quilt. A flat quilt top helps the quilting stitch evenly and reduces puckering.
Trim loose threads.
Dark threads can sometimes show through lighter fabrics during quilting, so trimming threads helps maintain a clean finished look.
Check seam security.
Make sure seams are fully stitched and secure. If seams are open or weak, quilting stitches may cause them to pull apart.
Remove pins and embellishments.
Please remove all pins, safety pins, and temporary markers. Embellishments such as buttons or beads should be added after quilting.
Backing Fabric Requirements
Your backing fabric must be larger than the quilt top so it can be properly loaded onto the longarm frame.
Backing size requirements:
Example:
If your quilt top measures 60" x 70", the backing should be at least 68" x 78".
Additional tips:
Backing should be pressed and squared
If your backing is pieced, seams should run horizontal across the quilt when possible
Avoid extremely thick seam intersections
